If your answer was, "books," and you live in or travel through the Northport, AL area, your wishes are answered!
The Tuscaloosa Public Library is improving access to its resources by launching their Vending Library at Northport City Hall. The Vending Library was purchased using funds for a grant that emphasizes utilizing technology to expand library services and resources to all patrons in a library's covering zone. TPL has spend the last year expanding their offerings for Northport residents, intending to make their services easier to access for individuals and families living North of Highway 82, as all of their branches are currently South of the Black Warrior River.
Browse library books from the vending machine by scanning your library card. The Vending Library's technology will know which books you kept out, and which you put back. When you are finished, return them using the same method. The books are due exactly like any other TPL resource, and - as always - are fine free!
Northport City Hall has become the library hub for locals!
With programming and (coming soon!) the ability to check out library books,
TPL is answering the need for more emphasis on the North side of Tuscaloosa!

Sign Up for a Library Card!
You can get a library card by bringing your picture ID and proof of residency in Tuscaloosa County to any TPL branch, and completing the application that best fits your family. All child library cards must be linked to an adult's card residing at the same address. Children can get their first library card when they turn 3! Be sure to set a PIN number while you are there to access all of the online resources that TPL has to offer, AND to place things on hold.
Place a Hold!
Go to TPL's Online Catalog and log in using your library card number and PIN number. Follow the buttons and prompts to place your books, movies, CDs, and more, on hold. Always verify that your pick up location is correct!
Wait!
You will be notified by text, call, or email (whichever you selected on your library card application) when your items are ready to be picked up. If you do not have a notification, they are not ready for you!
Pick Up Your Checkouts!
When your books are ready, go to the site to pick them up! Don't forget your library card!

TPL will host a family-focused grand opening celebration for the Vending Library on September 15, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Northport City Hall. Not only will you get to see the new equipment, but there will be a story time and craft for the little ones, and more!
