Purchase With A Purpose

By Jennifer Ballard, PWAP Founder November 1, 2022

Please join us for Purchase with a Purpose Party 2022! November 10th and 11th, 6 to 9 PM both nights, at Northport Baptist Church. The PWAP Party is a unique holiday shopping event featuring 30+ vendors representing local nonprofits, global missions, fair trade artisans, and adoptive families. Get a jumpstart on your Christmas shopping while knowing that 100% of what you spend is supporting local and global missions. Plus, you get unique, handmade, fair trade items you won’t find anywhere else. Win-win-win. Grab dinner from the Pastor’s Kitchen Food Truck which will be supporting missions, enjoy live music, and grab some coffee from Pastor’s Coffee. Bring a friend or bring the whole family – the PWAP Party is a great opportunity to introduce your children to missions and cultures from the globe.

Started in 2013, the Purchase with a Purpose Party has generated more than $200,000 for missions to date just through shopping. “Eight years ago, God challenged me to be intentional with my Christ shopping. Until then, I never knew it was possible to shop in such a way that the money I spent anyway could actually help others and glorify Him at the same time. Of course, God didn’t stop there. Within a month of that personal revelation and conviction, the Purchase with a Purpose Party was born.” Shopping intentionally is something we can literally all do to help others. Shopping is something we do anyway and money we will spend anyway, but when we take the extra step to know where our money is going, it can have an eternal impact.

Purchase with a Purpose is a simple concept. Selling fair trade items that are made by empowered artisans in the US and around the world and reinvesting the proceeds into buying more. We give 10% off the top each month to a different ministry of the month (this month, SD Allen Ministries). We are volunteer run so the other 90% of what we generate goes right back in to buying more inventory. Doing so boosts local economies, builds confidence and worth in the artisans, promotes access to the gospel, preserves families, provides alternate employment to the prostituted and trafficked, and prevents orphans. In Haiti, 80% of orphans are poverty orphans, meaning they have living parents who simply cannot afford to keep them. When we shop fair trade from Haiti, we empower parents with employment, preserving families and preventing orphans. Globally, 80% of women who are rescued from trafficking will be re-trafficked if they do not have alternative employment. Buying fair trade items made by trafficking survivors in India, Nepal, Cambodia, Indonesia, Mozambique, and even right here in the US matters. Many of our artisan groups are founded and headed up by missionaries who have seen that through these groups, they are able to meet the physical needs of artisans and their families with employment, access to healthcare, education, and childcare but ultimately they have the opportunity to meet their spiritual needs as well through the relationships built. How we shop matters and can make a lasting impact in the lives of others. Think globally, act locally, purchase with a purpose.
