The Tuscaloosa Barnyard

Your Kids Will Want to Go Back Again & Again!

By Stephanie Horton, MK Tuscaloosa Publisher October 2, 2021

One of Tuscaloosa's hidden gems, the Tuscaloosa Barnyard is at the top of my fall bucket list! Everything is ready for fall with pumpkins and Halloween decorations!   *Be on the look out for photo opportunities through out the farm.  There are several great places kids can pose with props available.*  We took my parents for a quick visit when they were in town, and loved it so much my husband joined us for a fieldtrip on Friday! There is so much to see and do!  Mrs. Kami and her team are so kind, friendly, and helpful.  They will be able to assist you with any questions you may have.  In addition to the pumpkin patch, there is also a petting zoo where children can feed and pet the farm animals. Once you check in at the main entrance, you can get feed, and take a tour of the petting farm.   A Barnyard staff member will also help you with petting bunnies, holding chicks, and ducklings.  You can see pigs, cows, horses, goats, ducks, peacocks, donkeys, rabbits, an alpaca, ponies, and many other animals.

After you feed and pet the lovely animals, walk just past the store, which has refreshments like water, soda, and Gatorade for sale; then you can let littles play at one of many playgrounds while you wait for the hayride up the hill to all the other fun activities.  On your way up, you will get a ride around to see the other amenities offered while you are at the Barnyard.

You can jump on the bouncy pillow which is located next to the barrel race.  (This was one of our favorites.)  Remember to take off your shoes before jumping, and if you have socks that would be best.  After you have bounced around, you can push your way on the track at the barrel race.  This can be enjoyed along or in pairs to see who is the fastest.

On the other side of the bouncy pillow are are some swings, play areas, and an old tractor for children to pretend to drive (and a great photo op for mom).  Once you have checked out this, make some time for a horse ride.  A staff member will lead your child around the ring on a beautiful horse.*  Next, head on over to Charlotte's Web and the corn crib.  This was another of our favorites.  My middle and youngest child could have spent hours rolling, sliding into, and digging in the corn crib.  While they played contentedly, I was able to sit in the shade and my oldest enjoyed Charlotte's Web, which is a great rope design.  Our next stop was the big tube slides.

Other wonderful things to enjoy are the cow train, and of course the pumpkin patch.  But maybe the best thing my guys found at the farm was a tractor they could drive* (with help from an experienced staff member).  First they were given a brief tutorial, then they took a lap around the tractor trail.  Toward the end of the experience they were shown how to use the scoop, and dumped out some dirt!  This was such an awesome experience!

Come out to the Tuscaloosa Barnyard for a memory packed adventure with your family! The Tuscaloosa Barnyard is open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. During the month of October, they are open 10am- 6pm.  They also do fieldtrips and birthday parties!

Contact Mrs. Kami to make your reservations for parties and fieldtrips.

*Horse rides and tractor rides are an additional $5 per ride.*

**You can also enjoy the pool and splash pad as weather allows.**
