5 Great Places in Tuscaloosa, Alabama for Kids to Splash In!

Check out these five Tuscaloosa/ Northport hotspots where your kids can cool off

September 4, 2021

We are lucky to have so many great creeks in the Tuscaloosa/ Northport region where kids can splash and play -- and you can feel good about social distancing.

Here are five of my family's favorite creeks in the Tuscaloosa area to visit. Don't see your family's favorite T-town/ Northport creek here? Drop me a note at mackidtuscaloosa@macaronikid.com and I'll add it to our list!

Put on a swimsuit, bring shoes good for creek walking, and don't forget snacks and sunscreen before heading out to any of these Tuscaloosa/ Northport lakes & creeks! And remember, always watch your kids in water — no matter how shallow it is!

Lake Lurleen at Lake Lurleen State Park

Lake Lurleen State Park offers fishing, boating, camping, hiking, and a wonderful beach front right along the river.  Kids can swim and enjoy playing in the sand.  This is our all time favorite park to swim at.  We always pack a picnic, and spend most of the day on the beach.

Hurricane Creek

Hurricane offers so much to visitors.  There are gorgeous trails, native flora and foliage to enjoy along the way.  Our favorite part is that if you bring a tube, you can go for a fun ride down the creek.

Van de Graaff Park & Arboretum not far from the Tuscaloosa Airport

Van de Graaf Park and Arboretum has something for everyone.  Although we don't actually swim at this park, there is a place where we let the children wade and splash around.  It is famous for the historic bridge that connects one part of the trail to the rest.  There is some great easy hiking trails as well as fishing holes.  We had a small birthday party for our little one here.

Lake Nicol

Lake Nicol offers swimming, canoeing, and is a popular birding location.  Lake Nicol has some lakeside cliffs that offer visitors a spectacular view.  It is a must-see destination for the birding community

Palmore Park Splash Pad

This one is not a creek or lake, but it sure is fun for the kiddos!  Palmore Splash Pad is sure to keep littles entertained for hours.  There is also a playground, frisbee golf, and skate park.   This is a great place to host a birthday party or youth event.  We have done both.  Also a fun place to bring the grandparents if they are visiting.
