Five Minute Butterfly Craft

Littles will love making this fun fluttery friend!

By Stephanie Horton, MK Tuscaloosa Publisher August 21, 2021

Here is a fun five minute craft that will be sure to entertain your littles.  This was a great time with my youngest today.  She really enjoyed the texture of the pipe cleaners.  First you will need to gather your supplies.  You may have them around your home, if not a quick trip to the Dollar Store will set you up.

What you will need:

2 pipe cleaners

pony beads

clothes pin

permanent marker

After you have gathered your supplies, the steps are quite simple.

1. Add pony beads to the pipe cleaners. 3-4 on each end is good.

2. Bring one end of the pipe cleaner to the center.

3. Next bring the other end of the pipe cleaner to the center so they meet.

4. Leave a little on the end so that you can wrap it around the middle to secure the pipe cleaner.

5. Repeat steps 2-4 to the second pipe cleaner.  Now you have four loops.

6. Overlap the two pipe cleaners so that they alternate colors.

7. Draw a face or glue "googly eyes" on the clothes pin.

8.  Secure the pipe cleaner "wings" to the clothes pin.

Now your butterfly is complete.  I hope you and your child had as much fun making this as we did.  We ended up sharing these fun crafts at a resource fair, as well as making half a dozen ourselves.  This would be a great homemade gift for grandparents, neighbors, teachers that your child can share.
