Macaroni Kid Tuscaloosa recently discovered a hidden gem! Local business owner Katelyn Babb answered a few questions to tell us about her amazing store, Make America Cute Again.
What is your name and the name of your Tuscaloosa-area business?
I’m Katelyn Babb and my business name is Make America Cute Again/MACA!
What inspired/encouraged you to start your business?
Dressing my kiddos in boutique styles on a budget was what caused us to start MACA!
What do you love about your work?
My favorite thing about running our online and physical storefront is hands down the PEOPLE. I knew from day one this would be more than a place to make a dollar. We are a group of ladies that even meet up for game nights and tackle community projects while enjoying shopping along the way.
What advice do you have for others wanting to start a business?
For folks looking to start a business I would say enjoy the journey. It’s tough and you’ll hit roadblocks, but enjoy those moments.
How do you practice self-care, and how do you make time for it?
Down time for me is with my family! I have 3 kiddos Lilah (8), Adelaide (4) and Tate (10 months) who keep me BUSY. They’re growing and changing every day and I definitely don’t want to miss a thing! They help me with shipping and sorting every once in a while, and work our store with me frequently!
What can we do to support you in the community?
As a community I think the best way to support us is just to come and shop and be part of our community! We have both an online pre-order store and app (“Shop MACA” for apple devices) as well as our Northport storefront! It’s so much easier to shop on a big box website, but we small business folks are doing our best to make shopping equally as convenient.
MACA is located at 850 Union Chapel Road, Northport, AL. You can also follow MACA on Facebook!
What is your favorite local business?
One of my favorite local businesses is North River Nutrition. I’m a snack fanatic. They provide fast food style healthy shakes and teas that keep this momma on her toes.
Is there anything else you would like people to know?
I think now more than ever in our history women need to know that MACA is a place you’ll be loved and accepted whether you spend a dollar or not. It’s a place we keep a prayer feed and are ready to rally around our sisters no matter the color, background or status. We are ONE here. I’m so thankful for each and every lady who shops for herself, her kiddos, or for her home with MACA.
